Redemption never felt so good

So I've been away for a while. Got a new job and things have been crazy. Sorry for that. Now that the dust has settled, I want to give this review blog another go.
Red Dead Redemption:
IDK what Rockstar feeds their staff but whatever it is, it works. Red Dead Redemption is a lot like GTA but with horses and a lot more weapon choices. You play the protagonist, John Marston. He is your stereotypical bad ass, cool under pressure kind of guy.
The story is you left your old gang in search for the "quiet life" thought the federal government at the turn of the 20th century felt you still owed a debt and essentially kidnapped your family and forced you to confront and take down your old gang. Not a bad setup. Maybe a bit played out but it still works. The game starts with you getting shot and left for dead in the first 5 minutes of playing. You are rescued by a cattle rancher named Bonnie who will become your first contact. Her missions are like the first GTA missions; more of a tutorial than anything.
The missions are fun and entertaining. As a suggestion, buy the upgraded campsite early. This allows you to save, change outfits and fast travel to other places you've already been. Also either buy or catch a hight quality horse. I took the easy route and bought the War Horse from the PSN for a buck. Best horse and you will need it to finish a very frustrating race.
The controls are easy to learn and flow well. The horse control kinda blew me away. I just finished playing through skyrim and the horse control is horrible.
The graphics and sound are good not great. The side missions are fun and often gratifying. The main missions take a decent amount of time so if you're a weekend warrior it will take you a while to get through. All together, this is an awesome game. Definitely pick it up. The replay value is huge and if you like GTA you'll like this.
Have a fun time.
