Ubisoft: YOU FAILED

As I'm sure you can guess from the title, I am referring to Assassins Creed 3.
This actually came out in the middle of a six week business trip I had in the UK. When I checked online, I saw the reviews from gamespot.com (8.5) and ign (8.5). I'm thinking, "OK not as epic as Brotherhood but should still be awesome". The day after I flew home I rushed to my local Gamestop and bought that and Dishonored. I raced home and threw Assassins Creed 3 in, grabbed a Mountain Dew and sat in my game chair ready for an epic marathon session. Then I started playing. WOW!!!! This was by far one of the worst games I ever played. It was hard, and not the hard were you need to use your wits and solve problems. I mean hard as in there is no strategy, you just need to keep doing the same stupid tedious things in order to move on. Also, WTF happened to the game play. They changed the button config drastically. Not too thrilled.
Let me break down the issues:
  • The minute you do something to effect you notoriety, you are immediately a target for the guards. Also, there are glitches where you go to a print shop to lower your notoriety and nothing happens. I miss when you had a buffer there to commit crimes and kill guards but still use stealth to get away, then pop out somewhere and no one bothers you.
  • The glitches: There are so many. I have no idea what moron was managing the QA group, but they need to be fired. I found five different glitches within the first two hours of game play.
  • Movement: I miss the old button config. It's what I'm used to.
  • The guards: They are everywhere! I think they were trying to make it so you needed to use stealth and alternate paths to achieve goals. Regardless of how you approach, you are spotted and then the chase ensues. I was being chased once for half an hour (there's a clock on the cable box). That's a bit overkill. Later on I decided that I dont have time for those and just let the guards kill me.
  • The homestead: It makes no sense. I have to craft barrels and other crap in order to make money. As a tip: beaver pelts are worth 160. If you leave the house and go just south (its along the water by the saw mill) there is a plentiful and respawning population of those cute little treasure chests. Use the hidden blade to kill them though. Also bear country in the frontier is another great place to hunt. Bear pelts go for 240 but the beavers don't fight back.
  • The story: This has become very convoluted and random. Desmond is still a whiny bitch though. At least they kept that static.
There are some positives though. The story inside the Animus is really cool (it's just the one outside that sucks). The historical battles and people that made up the times don't quite make up for it's short comings but it helps. Graphically and sound wise are what you'd expect from the franchise: rich color and great sound.

I have gotten through most of the game and felt like I could put it down for a bit to focus on Dishonored and Call of Duty: Black OPS 2 (reviews to come soon).

Do not buy this game. Borrow or rent it first.
My final score: 5.5 out of 10.

THANKS FOR READING!!!!!!
Call of Duty and Dishonored to come.

Redemption never felt so good

So I've been away for a while. Got a new job and things have been crazy. Sorry for that. Now that the dust has settled, I want to give this review blog another go.
Red Dead Redemption:
IDK what Rockstar feeds their staff but whatever it is, it works. Red Dead Redemption is a lot like GTA but with horses and a lot more weapon choices. You play the protagonist, John Marston. He is your stereotypical bad ass, cool under pressure kind of guy.
The story is you left your old gang in search for the "quiet life" thought the federal government at the turn of the 20th century felt you still owed a debt and essentially kidnapped your family and forced you to confront and take down your old gang. Not a bad setup. Maybe a bit played out but it still works. The game starts with you getting shot and left for dead in the first 5 minutes of playing. You are rescued by a cattle rancher named Bonnie who will become your first contact. Her missions are like the first GTA missions; more of a tutorial than anything.
The missions are fun and entertaining. As a suggestion, buy the upgraded campsite early. This allows you to save, change outfits and fast travel to other places you've already been. Also either buy or catch a hight quality horse. I took the easy route and bought the War Horse from the PSN for a buck. Best horse and you will need it to finish a very frustrating race.
The controls are easy to learn and flow well. The horse control kinda blew me away. I just finished playing through skyrim and the horse control is horrible.
The graphics and sound are good not great. The side missions are fun and often gratifying. The main missions take a decent amount of time so if you're a weekend warrior it will take you a while to get through. All together, this is an awesome game. Definitely pick it up. The replay value is huge and if you like GTA you'll like this.
Have a fun time.

the first

so here is the first review i'm doing. it's a little game called "fallout: new vegas"....
now fallout 3 was probably one of the best games i've ever played. i've probably played through the main story and dlc's no less than a dozen times. each time i find something new and cool. new vegas frustrated me to no end. the fact that it created these invisible walls so u couldn't reach a destination a certain way to getting trapped in rocks and not being able to move...along with that the fact that some of the enemy's that are super strong for really no reason. There's this mosquito enemy in particular (also called Cazadores) and it is as strong as a deathclaw!!! Stay away from those till you are at a much higher level.
Honestly, this was a way for Bethesda to capitalize on Fallout 3's huge commercial success. I think the money would be better spent making new DLC content for Fallout 3.
New Vegas should not have been released in my opinion. Rent borrow first before buying.

Intro

first off i fucking hate game reviews! they're totally biased and the writers concentrate less and less on why we game in the first place: TO HAVE FUN!!!!!
i subscribe to many of the larger gaming mags. the more i read the more i feel like i've blown hard earned money. that being said there are times that i completely agree with what the reviewer is saying but it's happening less and less.
i created this blog to review games and offer a non biased view point. since no gaming company is paying me or kissing my ass in any way my offerings will be candid. that is to say i don't care what the major gaming companies think or the people reviewing them. they're full of shit and everyone knows it. if you don't then you, my friend, have a touch of the downs.
the people who will get the most out of my blog (which will probably not be read by anyone) are people who enjoy FPS, FPS/RPG's (i.e. Fallout) and sandbox type games. I don't do sports!!!!! nothing against it but i think it's retarded to play something on tv that you can go outside and do.
my person feelings but it's my blog so i can say whatever the fuck i want.
who am i: i am a 33 year old engaged IT PM with the disposable income to buy/ rent games and blog about them.
please stay tuned....
